Exploring the world’s most unique musical instruments
Music is a global language that connects the people of various cultures and backgrounds despite of borders. The musical instruments creates a unique sounds, textures, and rhythms that makes it distinct from region to region. Various instruments such as sitar from India, djembe from West Africa, didgeridoo from Australia bring freshness to the composition and create innovative musical ideas.
Musical instrument is basically a device which produces musical sound. Any object that produces sounds can be said as a musical instrument. In earlier times the musical instruments served as the purpose of an alarm in a ritual. For example horns were blown to warn everyone for the commencement of battle or drums where used to assist the rituals. But with the evolution of society and cultural thought processes the new musical instruments, now a days, has been developed. Let us explore some unique musical instruments from the different parts of the world and the purpose they serve.
Theremin
Theremin ,father of all weird musical instruments was named after its inventor Leon Theremin who patented this organ in 1928. This weird musical instrument is played without the direct contact of the player or musician. This instrument is being played with the use of two metal antennas which sense the relative position of the musician’s hand and controls its frequency and volume with each ,creating eerie sound used in film soundtracks especially in science fiction movies.
Badgermin
It is also created by an electronic artist and sculptor David cranmer. This unique and scary looking instrument has been built by using the thermine and a stuffed dead badger. Badgermin has been built by replacing the badges cut with electronic thermine that makes the instrument and create a weird sound.
Octobass
In 1850 in Paris this extremely large bowed string instrument has been built by French luthier Jean- Baptiste Vuillaume. It is larger than double bass, 3.48 m and consists of three strings. With having thicker strings, the musician or players used to play this giant instrument with the help of system of levers and pedals as a finger Board length.
Cello horn
Itself explanatory name, cello horn is a hybrid musical instrument which look like a playgrounds slide. In 1936 it became popular in science monthly magazine that has been played by using bowing strings, and the sound comes from the brass horn rather than the traditional wooden instruments. This sound from cello horn is the mixture of brass and strings.
Didgeridoo
It is a traditional wind instrument played by indigenous Australian people of Northern parts of the country. Didgeridoo , is made from the Hollywood Eclipse branch that is Deep and resonant drone which can be modulated through various techniques to produce the unique sound. This instrument has been used in various rituals as well as traditional social gatherings. The fusion of both traditional as well as modern techniques, it kept the place for both meditative and contemporary music.
Zeusaphone
The Zeusaphone is also known as singing Tesla coil or thoramin or music lightning. The Zeusaphone is a form of plasma speaker that producers sound by modulating its Spark output. The musical tone produce through air with the passage of spark. It literally means that it catches lightning in a bottle.
Wheelharp
Wheel harp is being invented by John Jones and Mitchell Manger, consists of board strings controlled with a keyboard and foot controlled motor. The spins through the motor and it rubs against the strings to create a specific sound when played by a specific key. This unique musical instrument has been debuted at the 2013, National association of music merchants held in Anaheim, California.
Sea organ

This unusual musical instrument became the centre of attraction for the tourist to visit the place.
The contrabass Balalaika
The origin of this musical instrument in the late 17th century, it’s similar to the other strand musical instruments. This Russian hawk instrument has a triangular body that has been played through fingers and leather plectrums and is made with extension legs reaching on the floor.
Glass armonica
This instrument basically used in classical music, becoming popular in Europe and America, invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761. Unlike the other musical instrument ,it produces the ethereal and delicate shimmering sound such as ghostly tones. This instruments is made up of glass bowls that are played by the musicians with rubbing the rims with wet fingers. In 19th century it became popular due to its supernatural qualities.
