LPG Rate Today: Supplying a domestic cylinder to your home costs the government and oil businesses ₹1,600. Customers are still paying less in spite of this.
The cost of LPG gas cylinders has not changed as of yet.
LPG Price Today, June 9: In recent days, the cost of supplying residential cooking gas has increased significantly. A typical 14.2-kg LPG cylinder now costs more than ₹1,600 to deliver.
Customers are still paying much less even if the price of petrol has dramatically increased internationally. The government and public sector oil marketing businesses are footing the bill for the under-recovery of almost ₹700 per cylinder.
Due to supply delays across the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for energy imports from the Middle East, the gap between market-related costs and retail prices has grown amid ongoing volatility in the global energy market.
To what extent did the global market grow?
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas claims that during the past few months, foreign LPG prices have skyrocketed, greatly raising India’s import costs.
In February, the Saudi Aramco contract price (CP) for a 50:50 propane-butane blend was $542.50 a tonne. This benchmark increased to US$775 per tonne in April and then to US$790 per tonne in June due to export difficulties in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the ministry, there were notable price rises for both of LPG’s primary components throughout this time.
Lowest LPG price in India
According to the ministry, the ongoing increase in international prices caused losses on domestic LPG sales to soar significantly last year. By the conclusion of the fiscal year 2025–2026, the overall under-recovery (the difference between cost and selling price) on domestic LPG had increased from ₹41,338 crore to ₹60,000 crore. The Union Cabinet has authorized ₹30,000 crore in compensation for oil marketing firms.
Domestic LPG prices are still much lower than the real costs of supply and procurement, even with a recent ₹29 increase in cylinder prices. A 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi would now cost ₹942 as of Sunday. According to the government, this price is far less than the cost associated with the market.
