The central government announced the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order 2026 on Monday in an effort to give domestic LPG users who later acquire PNG connections more leeway and convenience.
LPG Customers With PNG Connections Get More Flexibility
LPG customers with PNG connections may request to terminate their LPG connection under the new conditions within 30 days of acquiring a PNG connection. Customers may receive a transfer voucher for future LPG connection restoration in a non-PNG area, according to an official statement from the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
Amendment To Benefit Migrants, Students, And Transferable Employees
According to the ministry’s official statement, “this amendment provides significant relief and flexibility to consumers who may subsequently shift to areas where PNG infrastructure may not be feasible.”
The option is especially helpful for transferable employees, migrant households, tenants, students, and/or families moving to non-PNG areas, the center continued. Enforcement efforts to stop LPG hoarding and illicit marketing are ongoing nationwide.
Government Intensifies Action Against LPG Hoarding
The ministry reported on Monday that over 6,480 raids had been carried out, over 680 cylinders had been confiscated, 11 FIRs had been filed, and one individual had been arrested nationwide over the previous four days.
In the same vein, the Public Sector Undertaking Oil Marketing Companies (PSU OMCs) personnel are still conducting surprise inspections; during the past four days, they have inspected over 4,100 RO and LPG distributorships. 489 LPG distributorships have been penalized by PSU OMCs’ increased and ongoing surprise inspections, and 82 LPG distributorships have been suspended till Sunday.
Online LPG Bookings And DAC-Based Deliveries Rise Sharply
On Monday, the government reported that yesterday’s industry-wide increase in online reservations for LPG cylinders reached almost 99%. To prevent diversion, the percentage of deliveries based on Delivery Authentication Codes (DACs) has increased to almost 95%. DAC is sent to the customer’s registered mobile number.
Over 1.72 Crore LPG Cylinders Delivered In Four Days
Approximately 1.72 crore LPG cylinders were supplied during the past four days, compared to approximately 1.66 crore LPG cylinders that were booked.
