The legal use of 100% ethanol as a transport fuel in India has been made possible by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s approval of the E100 fuel regulations.
According to Gadkari, the rules were passed on Saturday, opening the door for the nation’s introduction of E100-powered automobiles.
Regulatory Approval for E100 Fuel
“I signed the file last night at 8 PM, finalizing the regulations to legally authorize the use of 100% ethanol,” Gadkari stated.
By increasing the use of domestically generated biofuels, the action is anticipated to promote the use of ethanol-based fuels and lessen reliance on imported fossil fuels.
The announcement follows the launch of Hero MotoCorp’s Flex Fuel-ready Splendor+ and HF Deluxe motorbikes, as well as the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel, which is positioned as India’s first E100-compatible passenger car.
Under the government’s biofuel plan, India has been increasing the amount of ethanol blended into gasoline; flex-fuel vehicles are viewed as a component of larger initiatives to diversify fuel sources and lower imports of crude oil.
