Following the most recent increase in the cost of 19-kg cylinders, which are frequently utilized by hotels, restaurants, diners, and other enterprises, commercial LPG has become more costly. Fuel prices are steadily rising for commercial users, putting more strain on operational margins while domestic LPG prices stay the same.
The cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi increased dramatically over the course of five months, from Rs 1,691.50 in January to Rs 3,113.50 in June.
The Changes in Commercial LPG Prices
In recent months, the cost of commercial LPG has repeatedly increased. Prices increased by Rs 49 in February and Rs 115 in March. Prices increased by Rs 993 in April, but they stayed high in May. June saw the announcement of yet another rise.
Businesses that depend significantly on cooking fuel are anticipated to be impacted by the sharp increase in commercial LPG prices. Restaurants, lodging facilities, and other establishments may choose to either absorb the increased expenses, which would impact their profitability, or transfer the burden to customers by raising prices.
It might also have an effect outside of the hotel industry. Growing fuel prices frequently lead to inflation by raising the price of goods, services, and food, which eventually impacts both consumers and companies. Higher operational costs may continue in the upcoming months due to the ongoing volatility of the world’s energy markets.
The Center Encourages Greater LPG Stockpiles
The most recent price increase coincides with the Center reevaluating India’s fuel security strategy in light of supply disruptions and geopolitical concerns in West Asia, which have brought attention to the nation’s reliance on imported energy.
According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, state-run oil marketing enterprises have been instructed by the government to maintain LPG stocks that are sufficient to meet demand for at least thirty days.
As part of a larger framework for energy security, she said, efforts are also being made to establish strategic LPG reserves. The action is intended to increase readiness against any disruptions in the world’s petroleum markets and lessen supply risks.
