The introduction of its first-ever dirt bike, the Ducati Desmo450 MX, Italian motorbike maker Ducati has joined the Indian motocross market. The track-only vehicle, which costs Rs 17.24 lakh (ex-showroom), expands Ducati’s off-road goals internationally and represents the brand’s entry into the nation’s burgeoning off-road racing scene.
The Desmo450 MX is a high-performance motocross motorbike intended for both professional racers and serious hobbyists. It was developed utilizing knowledge gained from the MXGP World Championship. Additionally, it is the first motocross bike to use Ducati’s trademark Desmodromic valve system, a characteristic usually seen on the company’s road and racing bikes.
Engine and performance
A brand-new 449.6cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with 63.5 horsepower and 53.5 Nm of torque powers the Desmo450 MX. The engine features Ducati’s Desmodromic valve actuation to offer a broad spectrum of power with powerful low- and mid-range torque while maintaining high-rev performance at 11,900 rpm.
In order to increase structural strength and save weight, the motorbike is constructed around a lightweight aluminum perimeter frame with few welds. Ducati emphasizes the bike’s emphasis on agility and racing performance by claiming that it tips the scales at just 104.8 kg wet (without fuel).
Modern electronics for motocross
The Desmo450 MX has a cutting-edge electronics package that is uncommon in motocross bikes. It has traction control that keeps an eye on rear-wheel slide in real time and only intervenes when necessary to prevent performance disruption.
Launch control, engine brake control, and two riding modes are additional rider aids that may be modified using the X-Link app with Wi-Fi access.
Hardware and suspension
Brembo hardware controls brakes, while fully adjustable Showa suspension parts provide 310mm of travel in the front and 301mm at the back. The bike lacks lights, mirrors, and other road-legal equipment because it was designed specifically for off-road racing.
Because it is a race-focused machine, it also needs race-style maintenance regimens, which include valve clearance checks every 45 hours, oil changes every 15 hours, and piston replacement.
Availability in India
Delivery of the Desmo450 MX is expected to start by the end of March 2026, and it will be available through a few shops, including Ducati New Delhi, Ducati VFM Bengaluru, Ducati Chennai, and Ducati Pune. The motorbike is currently accepting reservations.
With its introduction, the Desmo450 MX joins competitors like the Kawasaki KX450 and the KTM 450 SXF as one of the few European motocross vehicles that are formally accessible in India.
In order to enable owners to tailor the bike and their riding setup for competitive motocross use, Ducati will also provide a variety of Ducati Performance accessories, such as factory racing components, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, and specialized riding gear created in collaboration with Drudi Performance and Alpinestars.
