WhatsApp New Feature: Up until now, the timer for vanishing messages on WhatsApp started as soon as a message was sent. But with this new feature, the timer won’t start until the receiver has actually read the message.
WhatsApp New Feature: WhatsApp is presently testing a new privacy feature for its customers that may further improve communication security. The business is reportedly implementing a function that will cause disappearing messages to immediately destroy themselves—not just after a predetermined amount of time, but particularly after they have been viewed.
Testing for this function has started for iPhone users as well. It was initially discovered in the Android beta version.
New ‘After Reading’ Option for iPhone Beta Users
This capability is reportedly being made available to a small number of iPhone beta testers who are using Apple’s TestFlight program to access the WhatsApp beta version. This functionality might also be visible to a small percentage of regular App Store customers.
“After Reading,” the new setting, is showing up in the disappearing messages area. This gives users the ability to specify how long a message stays visible after it has been viewed by the recipient before it automatically expires.
Set a timer to begin *after* reading
Up until now, WhatsApp’s disappearing message timer would start as soon as a message was sent. But with this new feature, the timer won’t start running until the receiver has opened and read the message. There will be three timer options available to users: five minutes, an hour, and twelve hours.
WhatsApp will immediately delete the message if the recipient does not open it within 24 hours, so even if it is not read, it won’t stay in the chat for very long.
Compliant with the Current Disappearing Messages Function
This new functionality will work in tandem with WhatsApp’s current disappearing messages feature. There are currently three timeframe options available on the platform: 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days. These settings can be applied to a single chat or made the default for all new chats. But according to reports, the new “After Reading” feature is completely optional.
In other words, users will need to actively enable it; it won’t activate on its own. The current settings will remain in place in conversations where this functionality is not enabled.
Different Sender and Recipient Timings
The study also shows that while the timer on the recipient’s end will start only after the message has been read, the sender’s copy of a message may vanish in accordance with the chosen timing. As a result, the two users may have different message expiration times. As of right now, WhatsApp has not made it clear when all users will have access to this feature. But in the upcoming weeks, a larger group of beta testers will probably have access to it.
