The proposed high-speed train lines that would link Bengaluru with Hyderabad and Chennai have received approval from the Karnataka government. It will be a significant step toward the first bullet train network in Southern India. By reducing travel times between key southern cities, the projects are anticipated to increase industrial expansion, real estate development, and regional connection throughout Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
According to The Federal, the high-speed trains planned for the lines are anticipated to run at speeds between 320 and 350 kmph, drastically changing intercity travel in the area.
The projected 607-kilometer Hyderabad-Bengaluru rail line will link Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
It is anticipated that the 101-kilometer high-speed train will go through Karnataka and pass through portions of the rural districts of Bengaluru, Tumakuru, and Chikkaballapur.
Currently, it takes between eight and twelve hours for fast trains running under the South Western Railway zone to get from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. The trip time will probably drop to almost two hours and ten minutes once the bullet train route is operational.
Additionally, stations in Alipur in the Chikkaballapur district, Kodihalli in the Hoskote taluk, and the vicinity of Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli will be covered by the proposed route. For the project, officials have suggested a completely raised rail line to allow for continuous high-speed operations.
The second proposed corridor will build a 435–463 kilometer high-speed rail network connecting Mysuru, Bangalore, and Chennai.
The route between Chennai and Bengaluru is expected to be around 306 kilometers long.
Depending on the mode of transportation, it currently takes five to seven hours to get from Bengaluru to Chennai. The trip could be finished in about one hour and fifteen minutes with the proposed high-speed rail line.
KGF in the Kolar district, Kodihalli in Hoskote, Whitefield, and Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru are among the planned stations in the corridor.
Due to the planned connections between the Hyderabad and Chennai bullet train tracks, Kodihalli is anticipated to develop into a major interchange point. The establishment of a sizable depot and maintenance facility at the site has also been suggested by the authorities.
The Process of Purchasing Land
A nodal officer has been designated by the Karnataka government to oversee land acquisition operations for both projects.
According to the preliminary designs, the construction of the two high-speed lanes is expected to require the acquisition of approximately 1,757 hectares of land throughout Karnataka. In order to give passengers smooth last-mile connectivity, Baiyappanahalli Station is also anticipated to be integrated with Bengaluru’s Metro and Susuburban railystems.
When the project is finished, Bengaluru will become the focal point of the developing high-speed rail system in South India.
The Chennai-Bengaluru Corridor Will Probably Change the Regional Economy
Additionally, travel and business between the two major cities would probably change as a result of the Bengaluru-Chennai bullet train corridor.
Currently, automobile trips between Bengaluru and Chennai can take up to 6 or 7 hours, while train travel takes about 5 to 6 hours. This may be cut to almost 75 minutes with the projected high-speed rail line. The two cities will become more economically integrated as a result of the shorter travel times, making it easier for enterprises and professionals to conduct business in both places. Due to increased accessibility, industrial belts in KGF, Hoskote, and Whitefield are anticipated to see increased demand.
