What Makes the ‘Superman’ 2025 Trailer Amazing? Superman trailer countdown
Superman movie 2025 DC and Warner Bros. just released the first trailer for the new superman movie this morning, and it’s fantastic! It looks like James Gunn is steering the DC Universe in a promising new direction with this being the first movie under the new DCU banner.
David Corenswet fits the role perfectly, capturing both the powerful Man of Steel and the awkward, nerdy Clark Kent with his baggy suit and thick-rimmed glasses. As much as I admire Henry Cavill, I think Corenswet does a great job stepping into Superman’s iconic red boots—though the suit design might spark some debate.

What Works in the Trailer
The trailer gets a lot right, starting with the spot-on casting. David Corenswet embodies a younger, more approachable version of Superman—less intense and more relatable. While Henry Cavill was fantastic, his portrayal, like much of the Snyderverse, was weighed down by Zack Snyder’s somber tone. James Gunn Superman teaser trailer Rachel Brosnahan feels like a perfect fit for Lois Lane, bringing charm and wit to the role. As much as I admire Amy Adams, she never quite captured the classic Lois Lane energy. Nicholas Hoult, known for his brilliant performance in The Great, promises to shine as Lex Luthor, the mastermind behind Luthorcorp. And let’s not forget Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner—his retro haircut alone is a standout.
The Lois Lane and Superman/Clark Kent dynamic also looks promising. The trailer hints that Lois might discover Clark’s dual identity, setting up a heartfelt romantic subplot that even includes some iconic “kissing in flight” moments.
Krypto the Superdog is undeniably the trailer’s scene-stealer. His moment with the line, “Take me home, Krypto,” is both endearing and impactful, hinting that he’ll be a fan-favorite and a major player in the movie’s marketing campaign. Even critics of the trailer will likely agree Krypto is a highlight.
Another high point is Superman being depicted as a symbol of hope and compassion. The trailer emphasizes his role as a savior, with touching scenes like a young boy whispering “Superman” as chaos unfolds around him. It’s clear this film is aiming for a more sincere, hopeful tone—less grimdark, yet still grounded in emotional depth and action. While we can’t fully gauge the balance yet, this shift is refreshing.
The soundtrack is another win. With a modern electric guitar and orchestral mix, it subtly evokes the classic John Williams theme while adding a fresh twist.
Concerns from the Trailer
However, there are two aspects I’m less thrilled about.
First, the overcrowded cast of characters is a concern. This teaser introduces not just Superman and Lex Luthor, but also Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, a Kaiju, and possibly more. For a reboot that should ideally center on Superman and Lex, the inclusion of so many secondary characters feels overwhelming. Even without Supergirl making an appearance, the roster seems bloated for an origin-focused story.
Second, while I’m not outright opposed to a darker tone, this trailer hints at a film that’s possibly grittier than expected. While the hopeful moments shine, the balance between action, struggle, and violence may tilt too heavily toward the dark side for some viewers.
Despite these reservations, the trailer inspires cautious optimism. With its earnest approach and a focus on hope, this Superman movie might just strike the right balance between sincerity and spectacle.
Cinematography Concerns
The most troubling aspect of the trailer is the cinematography. While some scenes look fantastic, others feel overly saturated and artificial—echoing a recurring issue in the DCEU’s visual style. The excessive reliance on CGI creates a synthetic look that detracts from the film’s authenticity. I was hoping for a more grounded, old-school feel, but the heavy-handed color grading and special effects lean too far into the overly polished aesthetic.
That said, it’s a relief to see the movie embracing brightness after the dark, muted tones of past DC films. Still, the balance isn’t quite there yet, as the visuals sometimes feel overwhelming rather than vibrant.
Another concern is the use of slow-motion. While the scene where Superman saves a girl seems to utilize the technique effectively, it’s hard not to feel some residual dread from Zack Snyder’s overuse of slow-mo in the DCEU. Snyder’s obsession with this style often felt gratuitous, and I worry it might rear its head again here.
Looking Ahead
The film is set to release on July 11th, so there’s still time for future trailers to give us a clearer sense of the story and overall tone. Despite these reservations, I’m genuinely excited. For the first time in a long while—outside of The Batman and Joker—a DC film feels like it has the potential to reignite enthusiasm among fans.
This is a critical moment for Warner Bros. and DC. Fans need a win, but perhaps even more, the studio needs one to restore confidence in the DCU’s future. Here’s hoping this film delivers on its promise.
