Sidboy Social Welfare Foundation: A Father’s Endeavour to Support the Needy and Pay Tribute to His Son
In the extensive landscape of India’s nonprofit sector, several organisations are dedicated to addressing critical issues such as poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, environmental conservation, women’s empowerment, and human rights. These NGOs play a crucial role in addressing inequalities, advocating for marginalised communities, and mobilising resources to create a more equitable and just society. Their efforts significantly contribute to social development and upliftment across the country.
The Sidboy Social Welfare Foundation (SSWF) is a distinctive charitable organisation strategically headquartered in New Delhi, India, and licensed under § 8 of the Companies Act. Furthermore, it is registered with Niti Ayog and registered for 80G and 12A under the Income Tax Act. Utilising 100% of donations to support the needy, SSWF is now gearing up for CSR fund registration and FCRA registration.
The organisation is dedicated to ending discrimination and fostering an equal society. SSWF focuses on marginalised and needy individuals by providing healthcare, medicines, food, rations, and child education. After making significant contributions in these areas, SSWF has also begun organising large-scale multi-location langar services in Delhi.
Sapan Dhawan, a 1990 batch Chartered Accountant, is the founder & director of SSWF. He embarked on an empathetic and, most notably, humane journey to support those in need in healthcare and education. Today, SSWF is recognised as a nationally acclaimed non-profit non-governmental organisation (NGO), operating under Sapan’s visionary leadership. Since its inception in 2022, the organisation has undertaken a wide range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of citizens in India. With its dedicated efforts toward social upliftment and transformation and empowering underprivileged and marginalised communities, SSWF has rightfully established itself as one of the leading non-profit organisations in the country.
The Genesis Of SSWF: A Dedicated Organization
Sapan Dhawan took the foundation of Sidboy Social Welfare Foundation (SSWF) in memory of his son, Siddhant Dhawan, who passed away in August 2019, leaving a significant void in his life. What began as a small initiative to support and empower those in need has evolved into a notable nonprofit organisation, recognised for its efforts to provide rations, food items, and medicines and organise langars.
The organisation celebrated its first Founder’s Day on 14th November 2022, which is the birthday of Siddhant Dhawan, the inspiration behind this establishment. The team organised large langars in multiple locations in Delhi.
Sapan Dhawan, Director at SSWF
Sapan Dhawan is an inspiring entrepreneur and trailblazer, dedicated to empowering unprivileged people. In 2019, his life took a tragic turn when he lost his son. Sapan’s son played a significant role in his life, inspiring him to pursue a path in the non-profit sector. “It was my son’s thoughts to help others that motivated me to initiate this organisation,” adds Sapan.
Currently, as the director of SSWF, Sapan focuses on establishing the entire process for organising donations and providing food, medicines, and education to those in need. He actively manages this multifaceted work, demonstrating his commitment to making a difference. His core vision is to make SSWF a success story.
Notable Initiatives Driven by SSWF
In the first six months, SSWF undertook several activities, a few of which are listed below:
• Limited but continuous medical support to cancer patients.
• Coordinating large-scale medical supplies for NGOs.
• Educational support.
• Women empowerment (marriage support and counselling)
• Large-scale, multi-locational langar distribution. Teams capable of handling open and packed langar.
• Blanket distribution on Lohri + Makar Sankranti.
• Clothes (new and old) distribution.
• Around 5 lacs touch, to date, with support from more than 150 donors from the date of commencement of SSWF.
• Adopted families in villages with local support of other NGOs
• T-shirt distribution with SSWF logo and aim.
Significant Achievements and Success
The general definition of success often focuses on monetary gains, awards, and accolades. However, for Sapan and his organisation, SSWF, success represents something much broader. For them, success is defined by the number of people they can help. A significant achievement of SSWF has been organising langars for approximately 10,000 needy individuals at eight locations in Delhi within just three months of operation. Within two years, SSWF has more than 150 donors and has provided its services to more than 5 lacs needy.
The dedication of Sapan and his entire team, along with the growing number of volunteers who strive to bring about change, is a vital step towards achieving the goals that SSWF aims to fulfil.
Road Ahead
SSWF is working diligently to continue its SEWA in the fields of food, health care, and education. While actively seeking funds to support their initiative, they plan to focus on various areas. Another part of their strategy includes organising multilocational langar drives frequently in the coming months.
