The redesigned Hyundai Exter, which costs between Rs 5.80 lakh and Rs 9.42 lakh (ex-showroom), has been introduced in India by Hyundai Motor India Limited. While keeping its current powertrain options, the redesigned small SUV receives a number of improvements in terms of features, safety, interiors, and styling. According to Hyundai, the new Exter has more than 25 improvements designed to make it more appealing to young families and urban shoppers.
Having over two lakh consumers in India, the updated Exter builds on the positive feedback the model has received since its launch. With this upgrade, Hyundai has concentrated on enhancing the SUV’s safety package while also giving it a more moden design, a more upscale cabin, and extra amenities. The general mechanical configuration stays the same, sticking to the tried-and-true recipe, despite these modifications.
Exterior design
The exterior of the facelifted Exter has been updated to improve its SUV character, giving it a bolder and more upright posture. A larger grille, a new center garnish, and redesigned bumpers have been added to the front fascia to give it a more powerful appearance. A wing-style spoiler enhances its aesthetic appeal, while revised tailgate and C-pillar decorations at the back give it a sharper and sportier look.
The SUV’s rougher, more muscular look is further improved by new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and more noticeable wheel arch cladding. Hyundai continues to emphasize that the Exter is the tallest SUV in its class and has one of the longest wheelbases, which improves both its road presence and cabin comfort.
Interior design
The Exter’s interior is significantly upgraded with a more upscale and modern design. The dashboard now has a new 3D carbon-pattern finish, and the interior has a dual-tone navy blue and gray motif. Additionally, segment-first metal pedals and a D-cut steering wheel provide a sportier edge to the cabin.
A foldable driver’s armrest, updated seat fabric, and enhanced ergonomics have all contributed to increased comfort and usefulness. To improve passenger comfort, Hyundai has made driver seat height adjustability and movable rear headrests standard on all models. The SUV continues to offer a spacious cabin along with a boot space of 391 litres.
Features
The combination of more sophisticated and linked technology significantly expands the Exter facelift’s feature set. The addition of a segment-first dashcam, which provides a further degree of convenience and safety, is a major feature. In addition, the SUV has a Type-C USB connector for rear passengers and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Exter offers more than 60 Bluelink-enabled connected car capabilities and more than 300 built-in voice commands that work even in the absence of internet access. The SUV is well-equipped for its class thanks to current technologies like an electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and OTA updates for navigation and infotainment.
Powertrain
The Exter doesn’t alter mechanically. It still has a 1.2-liter, four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine that can be mated to an AMT or manual gearbox. Hyundai highlights that it is still the only SUV in its class with a powerful four-cylinder gasoline engine, which enhances the driving experience.
The Hy-CNG Duo CNG version has a dual-cylinder configuration intended to maximize boot capacity. Additionally, an underbody spare tire is now included as standard equipment, increasing practicality while maintaining 225 liters of useful baggage capacity for daily requirements.
Safety
Hyundai offers over 45 safety features in the redesigned Exter, substantially enhancing safety. Crucially, 30 of these features are included in every model, highlighting the brand’s emphasis on accessibility and safety.
Six airbags are available across the range, while Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) are standard features. With these modifications, the Exter maintains its place in its market as a well-rounded, safety-conscious small SUV.
