The schedule for the first 20 Indian Premier League 2026 games has been made public by the BCCI. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play the first game. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host the opening IPL 2026 game. Later on, the schedule for the remaining games will be made public. The dates of the next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Assam will determine the future calendar, according to the BCCI.
Many clubs, including the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants, have already started preparing for the 2026 Indian Premier League, and players are putting in a lot of effort in training camps. On March 28, Royal Challengers Bangalore, the reigning champions, will play their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
These ten locations will host games.
Ten locations—Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad—will host a total of twenty matches throughout this first phase schedule.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium will host five of the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home games, while Raipur will host two. There is still a problem with games at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Eleven people were killed in a stampede outside the stadium following an RCB victory last year. Only with clearance from an expert committee established by the Karnataka government can matches take place in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 first match is in jeopardy as M Chinnaswamy Stadium awaits government approval.
The IPL 2026 schedule has been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The first match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The board also stated that Bengaluru’s match allocation is still subject to conditions. Before giving the final go-ahead, a team selected by the government would inspect the venue and supervise a thorough mock drill of match-day arrangements.
“The Karnataka government’s Expert Committee must approve the matches that are planned to take place in Bengaluru. In order to evaluate the stadium’s readiness for hosting IPL matches, the committee will meet and visit the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 13, 2026, during which a comprehensive simulated demonstration of match-day arrangements will be conducted, according to a press release from the BCCI.
Following the terrible stampede that killed 11 people during their first-ever title celebrations, RCB is scheduled to return to their home base at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium if they are granted permission. Following the incident, the stadium was barred from hosting important domestic matches and tournaments including the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20.
On March 28, RCB will host 2016 winners SRH at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to begin the season. Bengaluru will host a playoff match in addition to the opening ceremony and curtain raiser. The IPL final is slated to take place there as well, giving the city a significant boost and putting the tournament’s most important events on one large stage.
RCB will host games at two locations.
This season, RCB’s home schedule is divided between two locations. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host five games, while the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur will host the final two home games.
The board affirmed that once election schedules are finalized, the remaining fixtures would be made public. Authorities are awaiting official dates before revealing the full schedule for the remainder of the season, with three states holding Assembly elections within the tournament window.
