New Delhi: The midsize SUV market now faces more competition with to the 2026 launch of the Renault Duster. It will compete with the Hyundai Creta, a well-known brand in this market, and the brand-new Tata Sierra. Although the three models’ pricing have not yet been revealed, their features, engine options, and general emphasis already differentiate them.
The Creta comes with diesel, petrol, turbo-petrol, and electric vehicle engine choices. Still, the Tata Sierra is available in petrol, turbo-diesel, and perhaps an electric vehicle this year. Coming to the Duster, it has a powerful hybrid engine in addition to a petrol engine.
2026 Duster, Sierra, and Creta: Powertrain and engine choices
Whenever it comes to powertrains, the latest Renault Duster has the most options. The E-Tech 160 hybrid system from Renault features a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with two electric motors. This configuration generates 172 Nm of torque and 160 horsepower. In addition to the hybrid, there will be two variants of the Duster with a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine. One variant may be mated to a DCT engine or a six-speed manual gearbox and produces 160 horsepower and 280 Nm.
Another variant produces 280 Nm and 163 horsepower. Renault will provide a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 100 horsepower and 160 Nm for those seeking an entry-level choice. This engine is only available with a six-speed manual transmission. The Duster’s primary goal, as seen on paper, is to provide more engine options than its rivals.
Tata Sierra
The Tata Sierra takes a different tack, offering a combination of diesel and petrol choices. The 1.5-liter Kryojet turbo-diesel engine that generates 118 PS at 4,000 rpm will be available with it. The automatic version’s torque is 280 Nm, while the manual version’s is 260 Nm.
The Sierra is comes with a 1.5-liter normally aspirated Revotron engine in addition to a new 1.5-liter TGDi Hyperion engine. The NA petrol produces 145 Nm at 2,100 rpm and 106 PS at 6,000 rpm. Customers may choose between a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed manual transmission with this engine, providing them with options that cater to both comfort and performance.

It has a 1.5-liter normally aspirated petrol engine that produces 115 horsepower, a 1.5-liter diesel engine that produces 116 horsepower, and a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces 160 horsepower.
